You may wonder what a flock of geese in flight has to do with our dental practice.
We have all seen geese flying in the typical v-shaped formation that the flock assumes while in flight. This particular orientation is no accident. The lead bird in the flock has the most wind resistance working against him and therefore has the most difficult task of leading the others in the flock. Each subsequent bird in the formation has less wind resistance and therefore can fly without becoming as tired as the lead bird. When the goose that is leading the flock does tire, he drops back in the flock and allows another bird to take the lead. By rotating turns leading the flock, geese can fly for many, many miles nonstop. It is through teamwork such as this, that the geese can all reach their goal of migrating from Canada to the southern United States and Mexico without stopping!
